Earnie Shavers (31 agosto 1944) è un ex pugile statunitense, appartenente alla categoria dei pesi massimi. Conosciuto come uno dei più forti pugili della sua epoca, è considerato da molti il pugno più potente della storia di questo sport. Lo storico del pugilato Bert Randolph Sugar, nell'opera The Ultimate Book of Boxing Lists, lo inserisce nel capitolo de "I più grandi picchiatori della boxe" e di lui scrive: "Con un pugno poteva abbattere un grattacielo".Ha svolto la sua attività nell'epoca d'oro della boxe, attraverso gli anni '70, ed ha incontrato campioni del calibro di Larry Holmes e Muhammad Ali. Shavers inoltre ha sconfitto Jimmy Young, Jimmy Ellis, Ken Norton e Joe Bugner. Ebbe un inizio folgorante, con ben 45 vittorie su 47, 44 delle quali prima del limite, prima di essere battuto da Jerry Quarry, peraltro alla prima ripresa. Il 29 settembre del 1977 Shavers incontrò Muhammad Alì (già avanti negli anni e in fase calante) al Madison Square Garden. Ne risultò un match duro, in cui Alì vinse faticosamente ai punti. Esattamente due anni dopo incontrò Larry Holmes, perdendo per k.o. all'undicesima ripresa, dopo aver lui stesso atterrato Holmes alla settima.Nel 1995, dopo alcuni anni di anonimato, Shavers si ritirò ormai quarantottenne. Il suo curriculum vitae definitivo sarà così: 89 incontri, 74 vittorie (68 prima del limite), 14 sconfitte e un pareggio.Nel 1977 Earnie Shavers affrontò Muhammad Ali, perdendo per decisione unanime ai punti in un incontro spettacolare.
